DO I HAVE TO SIGN THE MEDICAL AUTHORIZATIONS?

Ray Critchett April 23, 2014

Again, the short answer is no. If you look at the medical authorization sent to you by the liability insurance adjuster, those authorizations will allow the insurance company to obtain any and all medical records from your birth to the present. This is absurd and unnecessary.

Once you have completed treatment, you or your attorney can provide them with a true an accurate copy of your accident related medical records and bills.

Your own insurance is another matter. Now, if the insurance adjuster is from your own insurance company, you may have a “duty to cooperate” and you may be required to provide them with limited authorizations. However, you should consult with an attorney before giving medical authorizations to anyone.

Call me, it won’t cost you anything to see if I can help.
